Hazards of common Flea Insectides
Imidacloprid (often sold as Advantage)
Imidacloprid is toxic to animal nervous systems. In a test conducted by an imidacloprid manufacturer, it caused tremors in laboratory animals.
For more information about this study, click here and look under acute neurotoxicity.
Scientists from the Chinese Academy of Sciences showed that imidacloprid causes damage to DNA (the genetic material in living cells) in laboratory tests with human blood cells.
To see an abstract of this study, click here.
In a test conducted by an imidacloprid manufacturer, pregnancy loss (miscarriage) was more common in laboratory animals exposed to imidacloprid than in unexposed animals.
For more information about this study, click here and look under reproductive toxicity and rabbits.
Fipronil (often sold as Frontline)
Fipronil insecticide products disrupt hormone function. Scientists at the Universidade Federal do Parana in Brazil showed that an application of Frontline to laboratory animals caused dramatic changes in the levels of two sex hormones and disrupted the animals' reproductive cycle.
To see an abstract of this study, click here.
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) classifies fipronil as a carcinogen (a chemical that can cause cancer).
To see the list of pesticides that have classified by EPA for their ability to cause cancer, click here.
Fipronil insecticides are persistent. Researchers at Murray State University showed Frontline persists for at least 56 days on pets' skin.

Hemp Supplement for Pets
PROMEGA HEARTS, made from hemp seeds, is a high energy, high protein, high fiber pet food.
Unlike many manufactured pet foods, PROMEGA HEARTS, does not attract pets with sugar, molasses or other unhealthy sweeteners. PROMEGA HEARTS, is 1/3 protein, 1/3 essential fats and 1/3 nutrient-rich fiber, unlike pet foods made with inexpensive meats and grains, PROMEGA HEARTS, contain only minimal percentages of undesirable carbohydrates and saturated fats.
Hemp is a better source of all required proteins than milk, meat or eggs. Hemp is a complete protein source - more balanced & digestible than soy. Hemp Oil is unique with over 90% unsaturated, omega, essential fats. Contains all the essential or omega fats required for cellular health. Contains several times more omega 3 essential fat than any fish. Hemp seeds are rich with vitamins, minerals and enzymes. Contains minimal carbohydrates: Much preferable to grain-based feeds.
Restores tissue elasticity, improves circulation and reduces inflammation. Because PROMEGA HEARTS have a superior balance of "required" nutrients--especially protein--PROMEGA HEARTS are very satisfying allowing you to replace larger amounts of inferior grain-based carbohydrate foods with smaller amounts of PROMEGA HEARTS.
Older animals with diabetes,arthritis, heart disease and many disorders of the digestive system usually respond well to diets containing significant amounts of PROMEGA HEARTS and have a significant increase in energy with less aches and pains. As well, pets using PROMEGA HEARTS always enjoy superior hair and skin with greatly decreased shedding.

DAILY DOSE OF HEALTHY LIVING FOR DOGS
Complete Range of Vital Ingredients Essential for Healthy Dogs
Sound health for dogs of any age or breed starts with proper nutrition, exercise and a balanced supplement that addresses a dog’s specific needs. Just like humans, pets usually do not receive an ideal amount of necessary nutrients from their diet and require daily supplementation.
Botanical Dog offers dog owners three formulas, Natural Dog Daily, Natural Dog Senior Senior and Natural Dog Daily Motion that contain balanced vitamins, minerals, fatty acids, amino acids, antioxidants and digestive enzymes for dogs in all life stages.
No other canine multi-vitamin formula contains such a complete range of vital ingredients essential to the health of dogs. Natural Dog Daily provides more than 40 synergistic nutrients including:
Water and fat soluble vitamins, including vitamins A, C, D, E, K and a complete and balanced stress B complex;
Digestive enzymes that ensure nutrients reach the small intestine and help improve absorption and utilization of nutrients from the dog’s diet;
Linoleic acid (Omega 3) to promote healthy skin and coat;
Eleven vital minerals to support proper composition of body fluids, formation of red blood cells and bone, and maintenance of healthy nerve function; and
Antioxidants (A, C, E and selenium) to support the immune system.
For maximum support of geriatric dogs, Natural Dog Senior offers a complete anti-aging formula to support immune, heart, liver, eye and brain health. The senior formula contains DMG, EPA, DHA, Taurine, L-Glutamine, alpha lipoic acid, and grape seed, milk thistle and bilberry extracts. Coat Therapy Shampoo Comments
Hi, JB-
Just wanted to let you know that I bathed Gretta this morning with the shampoo you gave me.
She smells so nice and looks so clean!
I'm very pleased with the product.
I went to the web site to leave some favorable comments, but couldn't find anywhere to do so.
Let me know if I can help!
Stay warm - it is way too cold to head for the beach to walk.
Talk to you soon- Karen Fedder

Pet Safe Insect Killer
Every year hundreds of pets are killed by ingestng insect poison.
Which leaves the dilemma,How do you kill insects without putting your dog or cat at risk?
Mix equal parts baking soda and sugar.Leave in areas were the insects will find it.
While this mixture is not toxic to animals or children,it can cause upset stomachs.Try to discourage pets from licking it!!
It is probably a good idea to place behind a piece of furniture or in a "doggie proof" cupboard.

Avoid walking near the edge of lakes ,rivers or streams especially those with murky waters.
Never let your dog swim in areas known to be inhabited by alligators.
And remember that alligators are more active in the warmer weather
